The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 412 calls for service from midnight Friday Aug. 12, to 9 a.m. on Aug. 15, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Man apprehended, taken to hospital

A report involving homicidal comments led to police apprehending a man in emotional distress Friday morning.

On Aug. 12, 2022 around 9:30 a.m., police were called to the 300-block of Tranquille Road where a man was reported as possibly in possession of a handgun and making intimidating comments. Officers located the man, apprehended him under the Mental Health Act, and transported him to the hospital for assessment and care. A bb gun was seized as part of the investigation.

No charges are being recommended at this time.

Burnt vehicle on the highway

Police are investigating after a truck left on the side of the highway ended up in flames.

On Aug. 13, 2022, around 4:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were contacted by Kamloops Fire and Rescue regarding a completely burnt out vehicle on Hwy 1, east of Peterson Creek Bridge. No one was located in or near the vehicle.

Later that morning, around 7:55 a.m., police were contacted by the owner of the blue Ford Ranger, who stated he had gotten it stuck sometime after 2 a.m. and left it there. He returned in the morning to find it burnt.

Stolen items recovered

A man was arrested after police located him on a bike that had been reported as stolen this weekend.

On Aug. 13, 2022, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a break and enter on the 1300-block of Prairie Rose Drive, during which a suspect entered an unlocked vehicle, then used a fob to enter a garage. A number of items were stolen, including a bike, sunglasses, and backpack. An image of a suspect was captured on video and distributed to other officers.

On Aug. 14, around 11:15 a.m., a police officer located a suspect riding on the stolen bicycle. He was arrested and lodged in cells, with charges anticipated following the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge assessment process.

The bike, sunglasses, and fob were returned to their rightful owner.
