File # 2022-1850
A shotgun, rifle, throwing knife, and air pistol were among items seized from an unlocked van on the North Shore early Tuesday morning.
On Jan. 18, 2022 around 2:50 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were on the 300-block of Tranquille Road conducting a curfew check when they observed a suspicious brown van parked in the back lot. The panel near the ignition was exposed and its plates were removed.
The van’s doors were unlocked and as officers entered to check the VIN number, they noticed a bag on the driver’s seat that appeared to have a firearm inside. A search of the bag revealed a rifle, double barrel shotgun, air pistol, ammunition, and throwing knife.
The items were seized for public safety,
said Constable Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. The van was not reported stolen and its registered owner was identified.
The investigation is ongoing.
