File # 2022-12258

Prince George RCMP impounded a vehicle on Monday evening for going doing nearly double the posted speed limit.

Around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022, police observed a vehicle speeding near Foothills Boulevard and 5th Avenue. In-car radar confirmed the vehicle speed at 110 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone. Police conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and observed the driver had only a class 7 ‘N’ or Novice license.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver issued violation tickets for excessive speed and for failing to display their ‘N’ sign. In total, the driver received $477 in tickets. He will also be responsible for the tow fee and the impound fees when he picks up his car. Luckily this driver’s poor decision did not result in any harm to other users of the road, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.

According to ICBC, speed is a contributing factor in 28% of fatal car crashes. Prince George RCMP reminds drivers that it is not only yourself you are putting at risk when speeding, but also all the other motorists and pedestrians on the road around you.
