Prince George RCMP’s Downtown Safety Unit completed another successful Boost and Bust project, this time with Superstore.

Building off their repeat success with similar projects at London Drugs and stores within Pine Centre Mall, several members from Prince George RCMP’s Downtown Safety Unit partnered with Superstore Loss Prevention Officers to target prolific shoplifters over a three-day period at the beginning of December.

During the project, police arrested 21 people and recovered over $8000 worth of merchandise. Several times, investigators arrested offenders with over $1000 worth of stolen product on them. Police are familiar with all of the people they arrested for shoplifting, and found three were in breach of their court-ordered conditions at the time of their arrest.

Police are forwarding the following charges to the B.C. Prosecution Service:

Investigators held two of the offenders, 31-year-old, New Hazelton resident Walter Wilson and 25-year-old, Prince George resident Skylar Jakesta, for court. Both offenders will remain in custody until their next court appearance. The B.C. Prosecution Service approved the following charges in these files:

Walter Wilson:

Skylar Jakesta:

We will continue to work with local business to target prolific shoplifters. Many of the people arrested during these projects are known to the businesses we collaborate with, so it is an efficient system when we can work with the Loss Prevention Officers on site to catch offenders in the act, states Cpl. Kurt Chapman, NCO in charge of Community Policing.

If you have any information about this or any other criminal offence, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477 or online at www.northernbccrimestoppers.ca (English only). You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information that leads to an arrest or recovery of stolen property, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
