File # 2020-39866
Police are continuing to investigate following a three vehicle collision involving a stolen vehicle and an ambulance earlier today.
At approximately 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday November 28, 2020, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 97 just north of the Simon Fraser Bridge in the City of Prince George.
Frontline officers and other emergency services attended the scene and located two pick-up trucks and an ambulance involved in the collision.
Three occupants of one of the vehicles fled on foot, but were arrested with the assistance of a Police Dog Service team a short time later.
Initial investigation has led officers to believe that a stolen pick-up truck was driven through a ditch onto Highway 97 striking the median barricade and then colliding with a southbound ambulance, which then collided with another truck towing a trailer. The ambulance was transporting two patients at the time of the collision. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the collision.
Several persons were injured, however none are believed to be life threatening. The BC RCMP’s Impaired Driving Unit is assisting with the investigation. This portion of Highway 97 is expected to be closed for hours while police gather evidence. Further updates may be provided as they become available.
