Mission RCMP are warning residents of an apparent fraud by a company going door-to-door offering the installation of a heat pump. On two recent occasions, a door-to-door salesman identified himself as being a representative of a home services company. The salesman told the homeowners that they were eligible for government rebates that would cover some or all of the cost to purchase and install the heat pump. After the residents agreed, the company then removed their existing furnace and installed a heat pump. Shortly afterwards, the residents received an invoice from a financing company for over $20,000, and were told that they did not qualify for the rebates. Residents approached by someone offering this type of service are encouraged to confirm for themselves in advance whether they will be eligible for any rebates, as some rebates are limited to specific products and specific installation companies. Anyone who feels they have been defrauded should report the matter to police, the Better Business Bureau, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
A Husqvarna chainsaw was turned into police, after being found on the side of the road along Silverdale Avenue. If you believe it’s yours, call Mission RCMP and provide a model number and detailed description. File 24-15038.
On the night of December 15, two officers checked the occupants of a pickup truck that had pulled into a gas station on Lougheed Highway near Park Street, as the officers were aware that prohibited drivers had been known to drive the truck in the past. The passenger of the truck initially provided a false name to police, but after doing some detective work, officers determined the passenger’s true identity, and learned that he had outstanding arrest warrants, for breaking and entering and breaching the conditions of his release. He was arrested and held for a court hearing.
An officer on patrol on the evening of December 12, saw a black BMW following too closely behind a Toyota Rav 4, and repeatedly flashing its high-beams at the Toyota. The Toyota driver was in turn driving with his middle finger out the window. The officer pulled over the BMW, and the Toyota also returned to speak with the officer. It appears the two vehicles had been involved in an ongoing road rage incident. Due to prior infractions, the BMW driver already had a pending 6-month driving prohibition slated to be issued to him. The officer issued the driving prohibition, and everyone was advised not to engage in any future road-rage incidents, and to call police instead.
Shortly after midnight on December 15, a woman sought help from a police officer on Lougheed Highway near Haig Street, after she had been assaulted by another woman minutes earlier. The victim had been in the parking lot of a nearby fast food restaurant when the offender – who was unknown to the victim – approached her, pulled her hair and bit her head. While the officer was gathering the information, the victim saw the offender nearby. Officers arrested the woman for assault, which led the woman to spit on the officer, and later kick the officer as well. Police are recommending charges of assault and assaulting a police officer against the woman.
