File # 2024-40609
Just before 3:30 p.m. on December 8, 2024, Prince George RCMP was called to the 1900-block of Ross Crescent for a report of shots fired with one victim.
Police officers immediately flooded the area where witnesses were quick to point out the suspect, who was leaving the area on foot. The suspect was arrested by police less than ten minutes after the initial report was received by police.
The rapid response to this incident is a great example of our Frontline police officers’ dedication to public safety. Though this shooting occurred on a weekend, it was close to a public park and a high school, in a residential neighbourhood at a time of day that often sees people outside in the area. Any additional risk to the public was very quickly managed by this team,
states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
The victim was transported to the hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified by police as 38-year-old Dustin Charles Burgess, will remain in custody until his next court appearance. The following charges have been approved in this matter:
- Aggravated assault
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident with no increased risk to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing.
