Police investigating fatal hit and run

The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a fatal hit and run collision that claimed the life of an adult man. The incident occurred at approximately 7 PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024 on Harmac Road immediately east of the Cedar Road Bridge.

Police, Fire and BCEHS attended. Despite the valiant efforts of bystanders and first responders who administered emergency first aid and CPR, the man was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service was contacted and attended the scene. The roadway was closed overnight to allow officers to examine the scene and collect forensic evidence. At this point in the investigation it appears that the victim was walking along the side of the road when struck by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver and vehicle involved. Investigators are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage from anyone in the area between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
