Halloween is fast approaching, and the safety of children and pedestrians should be on the forefront.

Halloween is a busy time for kids of all ages. In preparation of Halloween, Coquitlam RCMP wants the public to plan for a fun and safe time by using these safety tips:

Planning your safe and scary look:

Ensure your costume is visible in the dark. You can add reflective tape or arm bands to increase visibility. Use flashlights and glow sticks; they are great accessories for any costume and can keep kids visible to motorists.
If your costume involves a mask, test it our prior to Halloween to ensure that you can see properly. If possible, use face paint instead.
Ensure your costume is made of flame-retardant material.
Make sure your costume fits well to avoid falls or stumbles.

Candy Safety:

Inspect treats before consuming
Do not eat homemade treats.
Check all commercially wrapped treats for small holes in the wrappers, throw away anything that is torn, unwrapped, or in loose packaging.
When in doubt throw it out!
