On August 25, at approximately 11:52 p.m., a West Shore RCMP Frontline officer was conducting patrols on Ocean Blvd in Colwood.

The officer pulled over a 2019 Nissan Frontier Pick Up truck. The driver of the Frontier, who is identified as a 41-year-male, had an open can of beer in his vehicle and attempted to take one last sip before  exiting his vehicle to talk to the officer.

The driver was detained for an impaired driving investigation and provided samples of his breath into a Approved Roadside Screening Device with Fail results, indicating the driver’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit. The Frontier was impounded for 30 days and the driver issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition.

Overall, it was a busy weekend for traffic related offences on the West Shore. Throughout the weekend (August 23-25), West Shore RCMP officers issued the following:

Langford:

View Royal:

Colwood:

In addition to the above, 17 tickets were also issued for various traffic offences.

With the upcoming long weekend, our officers will be out patrolling and checking for sober drivers. West Shore RCMP would like to remind drivers to please plan for a safe and sober ride home.
