Police seek to identify persons of interest in theft of sailboat

The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals shown the attached photos. It is alleged that at approximately 1:30 AM on Wednesday July 10, 2024, these two were seen unlawfully entering a dock at the Townsite Marina located at 20 Townsite Road. Later that same day, the 45-foot Soggy Dollar
sailboat, was reported stolen. Investigators obtained surveillance footage of two men seen climbing around the gate that secures the dock where the stolen boat was moored.
The sailboat was found later that same day adrift in Departure Bay harbor. It was also reported that a zodiac was seen leaving the location of the sailboat. The sailboat and the zodiac have since been recovered by the RCMP West Coast Marine, and turned over to the Nanaimo RCMP for safe keeping.
The suspects are described as follows:
Suspect # 1
- Caucasian, 40-45 years of age, medium build and height
- Wearing a black puffy jacket, blue shirt, jeans and black baseball cap
- smoking a cigarette
Suspect # 2
- Caucasian, 35-40 years old, thin build, medium height
- Wearing a red t-shirt with large white logo on front, and brown shorts
