Drowning at Langford Lake

On June 15 at approximately 2:00 p.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a drowning at Langford Lake.

Witnesses advised they saw a young male swimming in the lake go under water and not resurface. Prior to emergency services arriving on scene, several bystanders had pulled a 17-year-old male out of the water and onto a floating dock in the lake, approximately 200 feet from the main dock. The bystanders administered life-saving measures until emergency services were able to get to the dock.

Police, BC Emergency Health Services and Langford Fire all attended the scene. Bystanders in two boats quickly ferried emergency personnel over to the floating dock. Langford Fire also deployed their boat and assisted with patient transfer from the floating dock to an ambulance. The youth was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition. The youth has since passed away. Our condolences go out to their family and friends as well as those who assisted in the rescue. 

There were many bystanders who acted quickly to help this young man. There were witnesses who called police right away, others that jumped in the water and applied life-saving measures, and boaters who quickly ferried emergency personnel over to the floating dock.
