File # 2024-11061

On June 12, at approximately 6:19 p.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving two pedestrians at the intersection of Latoria Blvd. and Ryder Hesjedal Way in Colwood.

Frontline officers attended the scene along with the Colwood Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services. Police determined two pedestrians were crossing at the cross walk when they were hit by a Nissan Frontier pick-up truck.

The pick-up truck was initially stopped at the intersection for a red light. When the light turned green, the pick-up truck proceeded to turn left and hit the pedestrians who had the right of way in the crosswalk. The driver of the pick-up truck remained on scene and was cooperative with the police investigation, advising they did not see the pedestrians. Speed and impairment were ruled out as contributing factors.

The 26-year-old driver was issued a violation ticket for failure to yield to pedestrians. The pedestrians (both 19 years old), suffered non-life threatening injures and were both taken to the hospital to received on going care.
