On April 9, Mission RCMP received a report that a male living in a motorhome parked on Teal Street was in possession of an illegal handgun, and had made concerning comments about using it. A Search Warrant was granted, and due to the nature of the call, the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team attended to assist with the matter. The Search Warrant was executed successfully, and a male and female from inside the motorhome were safely taken into custody. During a search of the motorhome, officers located a loaded 3D-printed handgun, as well as a bullet-proof vest. Numerous charges have been recommended against a 33-year-old man from Mission.

Shortly before 4 am on April 9, a break and enter occurred at a shoe store at 32545 London Avenue. Officers arrived to find that the front glass door had been smashed, and numerous pairs of men’s Timberland boots and men’s Puma shoes had been stolen. Most of the Puma shoes were red in colour. Investigators will be reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.

Mission RCMP were called to a mobile home park on Wilson Street for a report of a fight on April 9 at 9:30 pm. Officers attended and spoke with two men inside a residence there, however a third man had already left. A dispute between them had escalated quickly and turned violent, resulting in considerable injuries to two of the men. A long-gun was also reportedly produced during the dispute, but no shots were fired. The men on scene were transported to hospital, and the third man was arrested days later by RCMP in Hope. Charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm have now been recommended.

A pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Welton Street and 1st Avenue on April 10 around 1 pm. The driver initially left the scene, but turned himself in to the Mission RCMP detachment almost immediately afterwards. The pedestrian was taken to hospital, and was not seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing, which will include conducting a mechanical inspection of the vehicle. Mission RCMP thank the witnesses that remained at the scene to help the injured pedestrian and provide details to police.

On April 12 around 9 am, a witness reported seeing one man chasing after another in the area of Cedar Street and 7th Avenue. Officers located one of the men, who said that an unidentified suspect had just come onto his property on Juniper Street and stolen a piece of specialized equipment from him. Mission RCMP patrolled the area, looking for the offender, and, with the help of two witnesses that flagged down police, were able to identify an area where the offender was believed to be hiding. An officer noticed an arm sticking out from a bush, which caught the officer’s attention, as bushes are not typically armed. A man matching the description of the theft suspect was arrested, and found to be in possession of the stolen property, as well as a replica firearm and bolt cutters, thereby putting him in breach of his Probation conditions. He was held for a bail hearing.

On the lighter side:

On April 14 around 10:45 pm, a witness reported seeing a suspicious black car speeding along Stave Lake Road. Now, you may be wondering – what was suspicious about this particular car? Primarily, one of its tires was on fire. For anyone who has driven a car, or has seen cars on the road around town, driving with a tire on fire is not normal, and is certainly not recommended. An officer from Mission RCMP attended the area, and sure enough, located some tire remnants on the bridge near Farms Road. As you might imagine, a tire on fire does not last long, and soon disintegrates so that the vehicle is only riding on the metal rim of the wheel, which in this case left a variety of marks on the road surface. The officer followed this trail until it led off the road and into some fallen trees and a large rock, where the vehicle apparently crashed, but had since driven off again. The tire markings then continued on, eventually leading to the 11400 block of Stave Lake Road, where a vehicle was located, parked and unoccupied, with one of the front wheels bent completely perpendicular to the front of the car. The officer also noted broken headlights, and damage to the front bumper and passenger side. The driver had evidently left the vehicle and walked away. Fortunately, there was no indication of any injury. Police want to remind the public that if your vehicle was designed to operate with four tires, you must indeed operate it with four tires, and if something should happen to one of them – be it a flat tire or a tire on fire – you should pull over as soon as it is safe to do so, and you should not drive the vehicle any further until you again have four working tires. Police are now on the lookout for someone who just can’t get the smell of burning rubber out of their clothes.
