File # 24-4360

Around 5 pm on April 17, Mission RCMP were called to a two-vehicle collision on Lougheed Highway near Johnson Road in Deroche, where a Ford Ranger pickup had collided head-on into a school bus. Initial indications are that the pickup was travelling westbound, and entered the oncoming lane of traffic. The school bus driver attempted to avoid being hit, but was unable to fully avoid the collision. It is not believed that impairment was a factor, and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Only two youth were on board the bus. They were not injured, however the bus driver sustained minor injuries, and the driver of the pickup was airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A member of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended to assist with the investigation, which kept the highway closed until around 11:45 pm. It has now fully re-opened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 24-4360.
