File # 2023-19687

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, shortly before 5:00 p.m., Prince George RCMP’s Downtown Safety Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant at the encampment in Millennium Park, on the corner of First Avenue and George Street.

Investigators have noted a sharp increase in the amount of illicit drug use and drug trafficking in Prince George in recent months. In response to this, our specialized units are making concerted efforts to target those engaged in the trafficking of illicit substances, as the violence associated with drug trafficking puts our community at risk, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The Downtown Safety Unit was assisted by Frontline Police Officers as well as the Emergency Response Team, to help maintain both police officer safety as well as the safety of those in the encampment who were not involved in the investigation.

Police officers seized a quantity of suspected Fentanyl, as well as several types of prescription drugs. They also seized drug trafficking paraphernalia and a large assortment of weapons.

Five people were arrested during the execution of the warrant and were released pending the full results of the investigation. All those arrested are known to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
