File # 2023-3943

On June 14th at approximately 2:45 pm, the Sunshine Coast RCMP received a report of a male threatening to shoot people from his boat at the Madeira Park Government wharf in Madeira Park.

Witnesses stated they heard the male yelling from his boat and brandishing a hand gun, but not at anyone in particular.  Witnesses reported the male seemed to be intoxicated or in some type of mental distress.  All available front line police officers (7) attended the scene at 12967 Madeira Park.  At 3:20 pm police notified the Madeira Park Elementary School, which was very close to the scene of the incident and were advised that students had already been dismissed for the day.

Witnesses were able to provide police with the name and description of the suspect prior to police attending the dock.  Once police arrived, they were in the process of trying to evacuate people from the area when the suspect exited his boat and began walking down the dock yelling and swearing at people in boats nearby.  Police engaged the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident.  A search of the suspect and his boat was conducted and no firearm or ammunition of any kind was located.  The charge forwarded by police of Uttering Threats was not approved by Crown Counsel.
