This year’s theme—Volunteering Weaves Us Together—couldn’t be more appropriate. Volunteers are the common thread that weaves a community together by helping the RCMP to reduce crime and build strong communities.

We appreciate the work volunteers do to keep our communities safe, says Inspector Raina Siou, the Officer-in-Charge of the BC RCMP’s Community Policing Services. Each activity volunteers engage in promotes the well-being of our citizens whether it’s volunteering their time by attending community events, ensuring motorists obey speed limits or being the eyes and ears of the community out on patrol. The value volunteers bring to policing is immeasurable, adds Insp. Siou.

With Canada returning to normal work practices as COVID-19 restrictions lift, the BC RCMP is pleased to see volunteers returning to detachments. Their efforts are essential to every detachment, large and small. Volunteers work side-by-side with RCMP officers and civilian employees enhancing public safety in the communities where they live.

National Volunteer Week promotes the work they and offers us an opportunity to express our gratitude. Each aspect of the work they do is an integral part of our success in keeping the residents of BC safe and secure.
